Two Systems. One Sky.
AstroAligned is where Western zodiac meets Chinese BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny).
I’ve always been fascinated by how different cultures look at the same sky and see different stories. Western astrology tells you about your personality — who you are. Chinese BaZi tells you about your elemental blueprint — what you’re made of.
Neither is “right” or “wrong.” They’re two languages describing the same thing: you. Astrology, in both traditions, is interpretive — a lens for self-reflection, not a deterministic science.
Why both?
Your Western Sun sign is iconic — it’s the headline of your personality. But your BaZi chart has four pillars (Year, Month, Day, Hour), each carrying a unique elemental energy. Together they give a depth no single system can offer.
| Western Zodiac | Chinese BaZi | |
|---|---|---|
| Root | Babylon ~2000 BCE | China ~2000 BCE |
| What it maps | Planets & sky positions | Birth year/month/day/hour |
| Elements | Fire, Earth, Air, Water | Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water |
| Your chart | Sun sign + planets | 8 characters (4 pillars) |
| Best for | Personality, expression | Life patterns, destiny |

Methodology & Sources
This site draws on classical Chinese astrological texts including:
- 《渊海子平》 (Ziping’s Ocean of Pearls) — The foundational text of modern BaZi, attributed to Xu Ziping (Song Dynasty, ~10th century)
- 《三命通会》 (Comprehensive Guide to the Three Destinies) — Wan Minying’s Ming Dynasty compilation of BaZi theory
- 《穷通宝鉴》 (Precious Mirror for Assessing the Exhaustive and the Penetrating) — Practical BaZi analysis manual
- Western astrological tradition — Ptolemaic foundations through modern psychological astrology (Jung, Arroyo, Greene)
Every BaZi interpretation on this site is grounded in these classical frameworks. Western horoscopes follow traditional tropical zodiac with modern house system calculations.
